Accumold announced that it’s broken ground on a $33.25 million expansion of its Ankeny, Iowa campus.

The company’s 53,000-square-foot fourth building is expected to nearly double production capacity and create about 150 jobs. Completion is scheduled for February 2028.

The production-focused facility will add equipment, technology, quality and tooling capabilities, and technical and administrative staff to support existing customers and new programs.

Accumold reports a 98.67% rolling 13-month employee retention rate, 1.1% average turnover and average employee tenure of 7.25 years. The company said workforce stability helps preserve the manufacturing expertise needed to support programs from design and validation through high-volume production.

The expansion supports the company’s U.S.-based manufacturing and domestic supply chain resilience. The Weitz Company of Des Moines is the general contractor, with SVPA Architects of West Des Moines handling design. The project is expected to create 150 jobs across production, quality, tooling, administration and other functions.

Like its 2016 expansion, the new building will be engineered to withstand an EF-5 tornado, supporting employee safety and business continuity.

Accumold employs about 425 people in Ankeny and ships precision micro-molded components to customers in over 30 countries. The added capacity is meant to help the company meet future demand and support customers from design and tooling through validation and high-volume production.

“This expansion gives us the space, technology and capabilities to keep growing alongside our customers,” said Roger Hargens, president and CEO. “It is also an investment in Ankeny and in the people whose skill and commitment make our work possible.”

“Our customers depend on precision, quality, and a reliable supply of components,” Hargens added. “As we expand our production capabilities, we are also strengthening our ability to protect our team and support our customers through disruptions.”
